Anake has diverse management and governance experience including as union delegate, a founding director of a credit union, a nurseryman and farm forester, and various roles in community-based organisations. He has served as CEO of Ngāi Tahu’s indigenous Māori tribal organisation in Aotearoa New Zealand, and was responsible for managing its historical Treaty settlement process.
Anake Chairs the Ākina Foundation and the Hillary Institute of International Leadership, and is a director of publically listed Meridian Energy Ltd. He is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Canterbury, is on the board of Tē Pā o Rākaihautū - a special character school - and is a NZ Harkness Fellow.
Anake is particularly interested in responsible investing, impact investing, and promoting philanthropy and the generosity economy.
